This is the Nogihama Sogo Park Waterside Pond (Waterside Plaza), a free water play area in Nogihama Sogo Park in Shimonoseki City. Completed in 2004, this large waterside plaza is shallow, so its appeal is how easily you can get wet and play even without a swimsuit. Features such as an artificial waterfall, built-in water guns and a dolphin-shaped ride are laid out so that even children entering water for the first time can find a way to play. The water is reclaimed advanced-treated water from the neighboring Sanyo Final Treatment Plant (山陽最終処理場). A large combination play structure and a lawn plaza sit nearby, so you can spend the entire afternoon moving between water and land. Since it is free, dropping in for just a short time is also an option.

Tips

The 2026 opening period has not been announced (in past years it opens during the summer holidays). Be sure to check the official park information for that day operating status before you set out. In 2026 use was suspended for a time due to a water quality problem, and after improvement was confirmed on July 24 the area reopened. It is completely closed for cleaning all day on Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4. Bring a change of clothes and towels for everyone, and drying off well after playing makes the ride back comfortable. Shade is limited, so take frequent breaks.
