Benikko Hiroba Chapu-Chapu Hiroba fountain (べにっこひろば ちゃぷちゃぷひろば(噴水))

The water play area in the outdoor facilities of the Yamagata City children's play facility Benikko Hiroba (べにっこひろば) is the Chapu-Chapu Hiroba fountain (ちゃぷちゃぷひろば(噴水)). The city's official information says only that it runs in summer, and the operating period has not been announced, so be sure to check whether it is running before you set out. The outdoor facilities are open from 9:00 to 19:00 and closed on the second Thursday of each month and on January 1. Around the fountain are the inflatable Fuwafuwa Dome, a roller slide, the Charinji Hiroba bicycle practice area and a sandpit, so play never stops even when children tire of the water. The Paku-Paku Hiroba eating corner and a childcare support center are attached, making it easy to time breaks and feeding. In the long days of the season you can also play into the cool of the evening, which is a particular advantage of this place.

From July 1, 2026, visitors living outside Yamagata City pay an admission fee of 500 yen per person per visit, but those using only the outdoor facilities of Benikko Hiroba are free. Children under one year old, and people with disabilities plus one attendant, are also free. The roller slide does not slide well in wet clothes, so switching between water play and equipment with a change of clothes in between is more comfortable. For children still in diapers, bring swim diapers.

Best time to visit

About 4 hours. From afternoon into evening, when the sunlight softens, is the most comfortable stretch, with plenty of margin before the 19:00 closing.
