Next stop: A summer-only water play area, with a fun walk hunting for disaster-preparedness featuresAbout this spot
This local history museum in the Toyotomi district of Chuo City conveys the history of the sericulture and silk-reeling that once supported this land. Tools for drawing thread from cocoons and farm implements for handling mulberry are on display, letting you understand from real objects how silk is made. The sheer labor involved, hard to grasp from a textbook alone, comes across all at once when you see the tools. It stands next to Toyotomi Silk-no-Sato Park, and the exhibits make the origin of the area's name make sense. The building is air-conditioned, so you can drop in for a break during the hot part of the day.
Tips
Admission is around 200 yen for adults, and children are discounted or free (please check the facility information for current prices and opening days). It is closed on certain days such as Mondays, so checking before you set out is recommended. Buying lunch at the roadside station and eating it in the park keeps things moving smoothly.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. It lets you spend the strongest sunlight hours indoors.
