This old temple standing in the Nagara (長良) area is known as the family temple of Lord Oda Nobunaga. The precincts, ringed by trees, are so quiet you would never think the city is close by, and a summer morning where only the cicadas ring out stays in the memory. The main hall enshrines the memorial tablets of Lord Nobunaga and his son Lord Nobutada, making this a place to touch the history of the warring states era. Sitting and looking out at the green of the garden, even a child who ran around all morning naturally settles down. A visit takes about 30 minutes, which is just the right scale for a stop before lunch.

Tips

This is a place to spend quietly, so telling children beforehand not to run in the precincts is reassuring. Mosquitoes can appear in summer, so insect repellent makes the visit more comfortable.
