The Water Play Plaza of Verga, Hakushu Ojiro Forest Springwater Park, is an artificially built shallow pool with a gentle current, a water-play spot where even babies and toddlers can play safely. Unlike a natural mountain stream the depth is managed, so you can let small children play within sight. Hours are 9:00 to 17:00, closed on Wednesdays, but there are no closing days from July 19 to August 31 during the summer holidays. Basic use is free, but only during the summer holiday period (July 19 to August 31) visitors aged 5 and over from outside Hokuto City pay an admission fee of 200 yen per person (Hokuto City residents are free). The grounds have play equipment including a rock wall, a zip line and slides, plus a fountain, a campsite, the Ojiro Hot Spring, and the sunny pick shop and cafe, so you can also choose to finish the day by warming up in the hot spring after playing. It is a water-play spot with the character of Hakushu, wrapped in the forest of the Southern Japanese Alps.

The altitude is high and the water is cold, so prepare bath towels and something to throw on so you can get out at once if you get chilled. After playing you can warm up at the adjoining Ojiro Hot Spring, so bringing a separate towel for bathing is handy.

Entering at 14:20 leaves comfortable time until the 17:00 close and keeps you in the warmer part of the day
