This temple stands among the hills of Mitahora in Gifu City and has long been known locally as Mitahora Kobo. As a temple dedicated to Kobo Daishi, it also draws people on its monthly fair days, and a calm atmosphere runs through the approach and the precinct. Because the surroundings are ringed by trees, there is plenty of shade and it is easy to walk even at the height of summer. Climbing the stone steps and putting your hands together before the main hall makes for an experience children remember. It is close to Kamiiwasaki Park, just the right distance for a morning stop.
Tips
Visiting is free. There are stone steps, so hold small children by the hand as you climb. Being in the hills, there are times of year with plenty of mosquitoes, and insect repellent makes the visit more comfortable. Parking and the hours when visits are possible may change, so check before you head out.
Best time to visit
About 50 minutes. The cool morning hours are the easiest time to be here
