Aikawa Bridge (藍川橋)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A bridge over the Nagara River (長良川) in the eastern part of Gifu City, with a broad riverbed stretching out at its foot. Look upstream and a line of mountains comes into view, an open landscape with a different flavor from the city center. On the riverbed, time passes just picking up stones or watching the surface of the water, making it a fine spot for a morning walk. The river breeze slips through, so before the sun grows strong it feels surprisingly cool. Starting the day with river scenery before the afternoon water play is a way of spending time that suits this area.

Tips

Walking here is free. When the water is high or after rain, do not go near the riverbed; look out from the top of the embankment instead. There are many stones underfoot, so sturdy walking shoes are safer than sandals. There is almost no shade, so be sure to bring a hat and drinks.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. The morning, while the river breeze blows, is most comfortable.
