This is the Iwatanishi Park Wading Pool (岩田西公園 徒渉池), a free childrens pool in Iwatanishi Park (岩田西1丁目775) in the Iwa district of Gifu City. In 2026 it opens on a total of 23 days between July 22 and August 22, from 13:00 to 16:00. The water is shallow, so even small children who cannot swim yet can walk on their own feet and get used to the water. It is intended in principle for children up to the third grade of elementary school; preschoolers must be accompanied by a guardian, and infants still in diapers cannot use it. Opening days follow the Gifu City schedule, and in bad weather a red flag is raised and the day is cancelled. Unlike the Nagara River (長良川) you looked at in the morning, this is a world of shallow water you can wade into.

Tips
Use is free. Whether it is open that day can be checked by the flag on site (a red flag means cancelled). Wearing swimwear under your clothes makes changing simple. Shade is limited, so bring a picnic sheet and plenty of drinks. It closes at 16:00, so start packing up around 15:45.
Best time to visit
Right after the 13:00 opening it is uncrowded and children can ease into the water.
