Jabu-Jabu Riverbed at Kisogawa Suien, Kasen Kankyo Rakuen

About this spot

The Jabu-Jabu Riverbed is a free water-play spot inside Kisogawa Suien at Kiso Sansen National Government Park (国営木曽三川公園) in Kakamigahara City. It can be used during Kisogawa Suien opening hours, and in summer you can play there from 9:30 to 18:00. Because it is a shallow, gently flowing man-made waterside, even small children trying river play for the first time can wade in on their own. The riverbed is laid with rounded stones, so gently turning them over to hunt for creatures is another way to enjoy it. From Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, August 23, the Summer Paradise Festival brings seasonal happenings such as catching ayu sweetfish by hand. The real joy of this course is being able to confirm at the actual waterside what you learned at the Nature Discovery Center in the morning.

Tips

Use is free. Even though it is a man-made waterside, stones can cut your feet, so be sure to bring water sandals or water shoes. Do not count on changing rooms; wearing swimwear under your clothes before you leave makes changing much easier. Check the official website in advance for the Summer Paradise Festival event schedule and how to take part. Use may be restricted when water levels rise or the weather turns bad, so follow the guidance given on the day. The park closes at 18:00 in summer, so starting to pack up around 17:30 leaves you plenty of time to get home.

Best time to visit

Roughly 14:00 to 17:30. After 15:00, as the sun drops, the light softens and the breeze across the water feels wonderful
