Shiki no Hiroba
About this spot
A waterside park laid out along the Suimon River, which flows through the center of Ogaki City. Steps down to the water's edge and small waterfalls are arranged along the way, so you can enjoy the sound of water as you walk. The Suimon River, once busy with boats, is a symbol of Ogaki's prosperity as a town of water, and a stone-paved promenade continues along its banks. It fits naturally into the route back from the Oku no Hosomichi Musubi no Chi Memorial Hall toward the station, so it is a pleasure that getting there is itself sightseeing. There are also many shaded benches, so on hot days you can walk slowly with breaks.
Tips
Strolling is free. Where you can go down to the river the footing gets wet and slippery, so hold hands with small children as you walk. There is no need to get properly into the water here. Save your energy for the splash pool that comes later. Some stretches have little shade, so do not forget a hat and drinks.
Best time to visit
About 30 minutes. Walking it as the route back from the memorial hall to the station wastes no time
