Iozan Hida Kokubunji Temple (醫王山飛騨国分寺)

About this spot

Descended from the provincial temple built in the Nara period, this is the temple with the oldest history in Takayama. A three-storied pagoda rises in the grounds, and beside it a great ginkgo said to be over a thousand years old spreads its branches. The trunk is so thick that it takes several adults joining hands to encircle it, and its presence makes children look up in spite of themselves. It is within walking distance of Takayama Station (高山駅), so it fits naturally into the route back from the morning market. It is a dense little stop where you can feel the age of the town in a short visit.

高山市の赤保木公園にある無料の水遊び場「赤保木公園水遊び場」です。2026年は5月1日(金)から7月12日(日)まで開かれ、初夏から梅雨明け前の季節に活躍します。もともと幼児用プールだった場所の水深を浅くした水辺空間で、水着の着用が不要なのがいちばんの特徴。普段着のまま足をひたして遊べるので、着替えの準備を大げさに考えなくてよいのが助かります。水鉄砲などのおもちゃを持ち込んで自由に遊べるため、家から好きな道具を持っていくと遊びの幅が広がります。飛騨の初夏は日差しがあっても空気が乾いていて過ごしやすく、水にぬれても体が冷えすぎないちょうどよい季節です。

Tips

開設は7月12日(日)までです。7月18日(土)から9月6日(日)は隣接の高山市民プール(有料)が開設されるので、夏休みに訪れる場合はそちらを利用する計画に切り替えてください。水着は不要ですが、濡れてもよい服装と着替えは必ず用意しましょう。足元を守る水遊び用サンダルがあると安心です。開設時間は市の案内で確認してください。5月や6月は水が冷たく感じる日もあるので、上着とタオルを多めに持っていくと快適です。

Tips

Visiting the grounds is free. For viewing inside the main hall, please follow the on-site information. There are gravel paths, so wear shoes that are easy to walk in. It is a quiet place, so telling small children in advance about keeping their voices down helps.
