A shrine in Kaminakano, Kita Ward, Okayama City, dedicated to Munetada Kurozumi, founder of the Kurozumi-kyo faith. Although it stands in the city, the grounds are ringed by trees, and one step inside the air seems to change and everything grows quiet. The long approach and the stone steps are a small adventure for young children, and just the right place to spend that fresh early-morning energy. There is plenty of shade even in the strong-sun season, so you can pass the cool morning hours at leisure. It is not a flashy tourist attraction, but visiting a place long cherished by local people first gives the whole day a settled feeling.
Tips
The grounds have gravel and stone steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Briefly explaining how to pay respects before you set out often makes children want to try it themselves. On festival days the parking lot gets crowded, so allow extra time. You will have to look outside the grounds for a vending machine, so bringing your own drinks is recommended.
Best time to visit
About 50 minutes. The morning, before the sun gets strong, is most comfortable
