About this spot

Tamashima flourished from the Edo period as a port of call for the Kitamaebune cargo ships, and around Nakagai-cho the streets still carry traces of the merchant houses of that era. It lacks the glamour of a tourist site like the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter (倉敷美観地区), but that also means fewer people and the pleasure of walking the town in quiet, which is this area's charm. Strolling past white walls and lattice doors, you can sense the atmosphere of an age when goods and people carried by ship passed through. There are places to eat and local shops along the streets, so wandering while looking for a lunch spot is recommended. This is time spent walking a townscape where daily life remains, one not built for tourists.

倉敷市玉島にある「玉島の森噴水広場」は、高さ約5mまで上がる大型噴水を中心にした無料の水遊びスポットです。真上から降ってくるような水しぶきは迫力があり、思いきり濡れたい子には最高の遊び場になります。例年は6月中旬から9月中旬まで、9:00〜18:00頃に稼働しますが、天候によって変わるため、その日の空模様に合わせて予定を調整してください。2024年6月にリニューアルされた遊具があり、幼児用エリアが新設されたので、水がまだ怖い小さな子も別の遊び方ができます。石の時計塔と藤棚が目印で、日陰のベンチがあるため付き添う大人も休みやすい公園です。屋外プールが併設されていますが、こちらは有料の別施設になります。
