Former Yakage Honjin Ishii Residence (旧矢掛本陣石井家住宅)

About this spot

This is the honjin building where feudal lords on alternate-attendance journeys lodged in Yakage-juku, a post town on the old Sanyodo highway. Designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan, it retains the main house along with its storehouses and front gate just as they were. Seeing the spacious tatami rooms and furnishings in person conveys what travel in the Edo period was like many times better than a textbook. The family also once ran a sake brewery, so the grandeur of the storehouse construction is sure to catch your eye. Yakage is a rare town where both the honjin and the waki-honjin are designated Important Cultural Properties, so start at its very center.

小田郡矢掛町の「矢掛町総合運動公園「遊のおか」噴水広場」は、天然芝の広場に設けられた無料の水遊びスポットです。地面から吹き上がるタイプの噴水なので、水柱の出るタイミングを追いかけて走り回るだけで子どもは夢中になります。すぐそばには大型複合遊具と幼児用遊具があり、年齢の違うきょうだいでもそれぞれの遊び方ができるのがこの公園の強み。芝生の上なので、転んでもけがをしにくく、裸足で歩いても気持ちがいいのがうれしいところです。屋根付きの休憩所とベンチ、自動販売機があるので、付き添う大人も無理なく長い時間を過ごせます。基本の利用は無料で、運動施設など一部が有料になります。

2026年の噴水の開設期間は未発表です。例年は夏休み期間なので、出発前に矢掛町の案内で当日水が出るかを確認してください。芝生は日ざしを浴びると熱くなることがあるため、裸足で歩く前に手で触れて確かめましょう。日陰は屋根付き休憩所と木立に限られるので、レジャーシートやポップアップテントがあると休憩が楽になります。着替えとタオル、濡れた服を入れるビニール袋は人数分そろえておくと帰りが楽です。

The interior is a cultural property, so tell younger children in advance not to touch the pillars or fittings. You walk on tatami and wooden floors, so shoes that slip on and off easily make it smoother. It stands within the old townscape, so parking in the designated lot and walking there is the safe approach.
