About this spot

A nationally designated historic site: a cluster of burial mounds built on a hill in Yamaguchi, Kasaoka City. Several tombs remain grouped together, including a keyhole-shaped mound, and the fun lies in walking the hill and spotting them one after another — that one is a tomb, and so is that one over there. Being able to climb up and confirm with your own feet a shape children have only ever seen in textbook diagrams is a rare experience. Little blocks the view here, and the hilltop looks out over the surrounding countryside. Stand in this spot and the reason the park you visit next is called the Ancient Hills will make perfect sense.

笠岡市の「かさおか古代の丘スポーツ公園ふれあい広場ウェーブ噴水」は、遊びの要素を取り入れて造られた無料の水遊びスポットです。広場の中心に据えられたオブジェを円形に囲むように水柱が並び、順番に上下していく動きが波のように見えることからウェーブ噴水と呼ばれています。上がるタイミングを読んで走り抜けたり、わざと真下で待って浴びたりと、遊び方を子ども自身が発明していくのがこの噴水の楽しいところ。夜間照明が付いているので、日が落ちてからの表情も知られています。すぐそばには恐竜の大型遊具のある子ども広場があるので、水に飽きたら遊具へと切り替えられます。噴水の稼働は10:00〜16:00です。

Tips

2026年の開設期間は未発表です。例年は夏休み期間なので、出発前に笠岡市の案内で当日水が出るかを確認してください。噴水の稼働は16:00までなので、遅い到着にならないよう時間に余裕をもって向かいましょう。広場の床は濡れるとすべりやすいため、走らないよう声をかけ、脱げにくいサンダルかマリンシューズを履かせてください。日陰が少ないので、こまめに屋根付き休憩所へ戻って水分をとりましょう。着替えとタオル、濡れた服を入れるビニール袋は人数分そろえておくと帰りが楽です。

Tips

Follow the on-site signage for which areas and paths are open to visitors. You will be walking on grass and bare earth slopes, so shoes you do not mind dirtying and long trousers are reassuring. In summer, mosquitoes and ticks can be present in the undergrowth, so bring insect repellent and brush off clothing afterwards. There is little shade, so do not forget a hat and drinks, and keep the visit short on hot days.
