About this spot

The ‘Makiba-no-Yakata Flowing Stream’ in Misaki Town, Kume District, is a shallow, concrete-lined stream fed by spring water from the hillside that flows down through the grounds, and along with the waterfall, it makes for enjoyable water play. Rather than a pool with a fixed, enclosed water surface, it's a ‘flow’ you can follow from upstream to downstream, so children get a sense of exploring a path of water and keep playing instead of staying in one spot. Since it's paved and you can see the bottom, there's less worry about losing your footing than in a natural river, which is also reassuring for families. The roughly 5-hectare grounds also have a lavender garden, an herb garden, an athletic play area, an animal plaza, and a day-camp area, so you can move straight on to something else once you've had enough of the water. Admission is free, which is part of what makes this facility easy to drop by.

The 2026 opening period has not yet been announced. Since it typically opens for summer water play, check the facility's information before heading out to confirm whether the water is flowing that day. The paved surface gets slippery when wet, so have children wear sandals or water shoes that won't come off easily, and remind them not to run. The spring water is cold, so have young children get out and take breaks often so they don't get too chilled. Shade is limited to the trees, so a picnic sheet or pop-up tent makes breaks easier. Bringing a change of clothes, a towel, and a plastic bag for wet clothes for each person makes the trip home easier.
