Disaster Remains: the Second Matsurube Bridge (災害遺構第2代祭畤大橋)

About this spot

These are earthquake ruins where Matsurube Bridge, brought down by the 2008 Iwate-Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake, has been preserved in the state it was left in. A lookout hill has been built on the opposite side, letting you view the buckled bridge still spanning the valley from a safe vantage point. For children it is a place where the meaning of the ground moving becomes clear at a single glance, leaving a far stronger impression than any textbook. Information boards summarize the scale of the earthquake and the course of recovery, giving adults plenty to read as well. It sits right on the road toward Shinyu, making it a perfectly placed short stop before the water play begins.

Venue: 一関市・真湯温泉センタージャブジャブ広場

一関市厳美町、栗駒山麓の真湯温泉センターに隣接する無料の水遊び場が「真湯温泉センタージャブジャブ広場」です。2026年は7月4日(土)にじゃぶじゃぶ池への注水が始まりました。冷たい沢水が流れ込む池なので、真夏でも足を入れた瞬間に「つめたい!」と声が出るほどの気持ちよさがあります。広場にはブランコやコンビネーション遊具「プレイポートワンダー」をはじめ幼児用の遊具も多数そろっていて、水遊びと遊具を行き来しながら一日中過ごせます。7月18日(土)・19日(日)には10時から15時までオープンイベントが開かれ、輪投げ・射的・スーパーボールすくいなどで縁日のようににぎわいます。すぐ隣が温泉、その先が真湯野営場という山里ならではの環境です。

Tips

ジャブジャブ広場の開設期間は4月から10月で利用時間の制限はありませんが、池の水の終了日は公式に未発表です。出発前に一関市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。沢水はとても冷たく体が冷えやすいので、こまめに水からあがって拭き、羽織るものを用意しましょう。池の底や周囲の石で足を切らないよう、マリンシューズなど足を守れる履物は必須です。おむつが取れていない子の入水可否は現地の掲示に従ってください。山あいのため天候が変わりやすく、雷や増水の気配があればすぐに切り上げること。虫が多いので虫よけがあると快適です。ゴミは各自持ち帰りです。

Tips

Viewing is from the lookout hill only; you cannot enter the collapsed bridge itself. Always follow the fences and posted signs. Sheltered rest areas are limited, so on rainy days do not push it and simply view the site from the car. The walk from the parking area to the viewpoint is short but includes slopes and steps. Because this is a place that touches on the memory of a disaster, telling children beforehand what happened here changes how they take it in.
