Shinyu Onsen Center Jabu-Jabu Water Playground is a free water play area next to Shinyu Onsen Center in Genbi-cho, Ichinoseki City, at the foot of Mt. Kurikoma. In 2026, water began flowing into the Jabu-Jabu pond on Saturday, July 4. Because cold mountain-stream water pours into the pond, even at the height of summer it feels so bracing that everyone cries out the moment their feet go in. The grounds also have swings, the large combination play structure called Play Port Wonder and many pieces of equipment for younger children, so families can spend the whole day moving between the water and the play areas. On Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, an opening event runs from 10:00 to 15:00, filling the site with festival-like bustle thanks to ring toss, target shooting and bouncy-ball scooping. A hot spring is immediately next door and Shinyu Campground lies just beyond, a setting only a mountain village can offer.

Tips

The Jabu-Jabu Water Playground is open from April through October with no time limit on use, but the final day for water in the pond has not been officially announced. Check the Ichinoseki City information for the day's conditions before you set out. The stream water is very cold and chills the body quickly, so get out often, dry off and bring something to put on over swimwear. Footwear that protects the feet, such as water shoes, is essential to avoid cuts from the pond bed and surrounding stones. For children not yet out of diapers, follow the on-site notices about entering the water. Mountain weather changes quickly, so leave immediately at any sign of thunder or rising water. Insect repellent makes the visit far more comfortable, as there are many bugs. Please take all rubbish home with you.
