About this spot

This is a roadside station on National Route 4 in Okunakayama, Ichinohe Town. The farm-direct corner is well stocked with vegetables grown in the highland climate and local dairy products, and simply picking up and looking at the seasonal items is enjoyable in itself. The clear favourite with children is the soft-serve ice cream — eating one in the highland breeze is something special. There is also somewhere to eat, so finishing an early lunch before it gets busy means the afternoon at Kodomo no Mori can be spent playing without a care. Thanks to the altitude the air stays cool even in summer, making it a perfect stop to rest between drives.

二戸郡一戸町の奥中山にある岩手県立児童館いわて子どもの森の屋外エリアにあるのが「岩手県立児童館いわて子どもの森みずの広場」です。水遊びができるジャブジャブ池に加えて、上から水が落ちてくる滝のカーテン、水面に浮かぶいかだまでそろっていて、ただ水に入るだけでは終わらない遊びの幅があります。滝のカーテンは思いきりくぐって全身びしょ濡れになるのが子どもの定番で、いかだは自分で動かす楽しさが味わえます。入館は無料(一部の有料遊具・キャンプ場利用料を除く)なので、家族で気軽に一日過ごせるのもうれしいところ。高原の澄んだ空気の中で遊ぶ水辺は、県北ならではの気持ちよさです。

開館時間は9時から17時までで、休館日は火曜日(火曜が祝日の場合は翌日)です。みずの広場の開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間に開かれています。出発前に施設の最新のお知らせで開設状況を必ず確認してください。閉館17時に向けて着替えと片づけの時間が必要なので、16時半には水からあがるのが安心です。池の底やいかだで足を滑らせないよう、マリンシューズなど足を守れる履物を用意しましょう。おむつが取れていない子の入水可否は現地の掲示に従ってください。高原は日が傾くと一気に涼しくなるため、羽織るものとしっかりしたタオルを忘れずに。ゴミは各自持ち帰りです。

Opening hours and the farm-direct selection change with the season and the day of the week. Checking the restaurant's hours in advance is the sure way to go. Lunchtime gets busy, so arriving between 11:00 and 12:00 means eating without a wait. Topping up on snacks and drinks for the water play here makes the rest of the day easier. On the highland the temperature feels quite different in the shade and in the sun, so bringing a layer to throw on is reassuring.
