About this spot

A craft museum in Chiimiya-cho, Izumo City, that carries on the spirit of the mingei folk craft movement. The building itself, converted from the large rice storehouse of an old family estate, is a highlight, and within its thick beams and earthen walls stand everyday tools such as pottery, textiles and woodwork. There is nothing flashy about it, but since the theme is the beauty of things made to be used, children can look around saying things like: I know this one. The exhibition rooms are compact, and it is a relief to be able to see the whole thing while a small child's attention still holds. Spend a quiet morning indoors and save your energy for the afternoon's water play.

島根県立浜山公園ジャブジャブ川 (林間こども広場)は、出雲市の島根県立浜山公園にある無料の水遊び場です。クロマツ林の林間こども広場の中を、全長160mにわたって人工の流れが通っており、夏季に通水し冬季は水が止まります。上流から下流までたどるだけでちょっとした冒険になり、木漏れ日の下なので真夏でも直射日光を避けながら遊べるのがこの場所の良さです。同じ広場には幼児用や身障者用を含む43基の遊具がそろっているので、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、年齢の違うきょうだいでもそれぞれのペースで過ごせます。公園も遊具もジャブジャブ川も料金は無料で、有料なのは野球場やテニスコートなどの運動施設だけ。芝生の自由広場や果実の森、桜の園も隣接しているため、短時間だけ立ち寄る使い方から、夕方までのんびり過ごす使い方まで自由に組めます。

2026年の開設期間は未発表です。例年は夏休み期間ですが、出発前に島根県立浜山公園の公式ページ(https://www.pref.shimane.lg.jp/infra/toshi/koen/pref/hamashi.html)で通水状況を確認してください。冬季は水が止まっているため水遊びはできません。流れの底で足を切らないようマリンシューズがあると安心です。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意し、遊んだあとは着替えとタオルで体を冷やさないようにしましょう。松林は日差しがやわらぐ分だけ気づきにくいですが、こまめな水分補給と休憩を忘れずに。

Tips

The museum may be closed on Tuesdays, and admission fees and opening hours may also change, so check the official information before visiting. The interior is a quiet space, so telling small children beforehand to look gently makes things go smoothly. Making a promise at the entrance not to touch the exhibits is also reassuring.
