About this spot
The Shimane Prefectural Hamayama Park Jabujabu Stream (Forest Children's Plaza) is a free water play spot in Shimane Prefectural Hamayama Park (島根県立浜山公園) in Izumo City. An artificial stream runs 160 metres through the Forest Children's Plaza in a black pine grove; water flows in summer and is turned off in winter. Simply tracing it from upstream to downstream becomes a small adventure, and because it lies under dappled sunlight you can play while avoiding direct sun even in midsummer, which is the charm of this place. The same plaza has 43 pieces of play equipment, including items for toddlers and for people with disabilities, so siblings of different ages can each go at their own pace: playground when they tire of the water, water again when they tire of the playground. The park, the play equipment and the Jabujabu Stream are all free; only sports facilities such as the baseball ground and tennis courts charge a fee. The open lawn plaza, the fruit grove and the cherry blossom garden adjoin it as well, so you can plan anything from a brief stop to a relaxed stay until evening.

Tips
The 2026 opening period has not been announced. In past years it has been during the summer holidays, but please check the water status on the official Shimane Prefectural Hamayama Park page (https://www.pref.shimane.lg.jp/infra/toshi/koen/pref/hamashi.html) before you set out. In winter the water is turned off, so water play is not possible. Water shoes are reassuring so you do not cut your feet on the streambed. For children not yet out of nappies, bring swim nappies, and after playing use a change of clothes and a towel so they do not get chilled. The pine woods soften the sunlight, which makes it easy to overlook, but do not forget frequent hydration and rest breaks.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 45 minutes. The afternoon, when the sun softens, is recommended, and the shaded stream stays cool until evening
