The Kure Portopia Park Splash Pond and Medaka Pond is a free water play spot open in 2026 from Sunday, June 28 to Monday, August 31, from 10:00 to 16:00. It was originally scheduled to open on Saturday, June 27, but bad weather pushed the start back to Sunday, June 28. The splash pond, where children can send up sprays of water in shallow water, sits next to the medaka pond, where they can peer in at the creatures, so everyone from toddlers to elementary school children can find their own way to enjoy it. Admission and parking are both free, so you can set off on a whim the day you think of it. There is a simple shower, so you can rinse off after playing before you head home. As you would expect of a seaside park, breezes pass through and there is shade for resting, making it a water play spot where you can happily stay a long time.

Tips

Swimwear must be worn. Swim pants are also acceptable, and swimwear is sold at the venue. There are no changing rooms, so wearing your swimwear under your clothes before you set out makes changing easier. Children in third grade of elementary school or younger must be accompanied by a guardian. On rainy or stormy days the pond may be closed all day or partway through, so check the weather and the latest announcements before you leave. There are no restaurants in the park, so bring plenty of drinks.

Best time to visit

Arrive at 13:00 and you get a full three hours of play until closing at 16:00.
