Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園)

About this spot

This park, spread across the sandbank between the Motoyasu River (元安川) and the Hon River (本川), is a symbol of Hiroshima. The Atomic Bomb Dome (原爆ドーム), the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims (原爆死没者慰霊碑) and the Flame of Peace are laid out in a straight line, so walking through the grounds lets you feel their meaning with your whole body. People come here from all over the world, yet the park is full of greenery and the shade along the rivers is very quiet. It is only a short walk from Gate Park, so stop by before the water play and make time for the family to talk together. Walk only as far as is comfortable for your children's ages.

ひろしまゲートパークミスト噴水は、旧広島市民球場跡地に生まれた「ひろしまゲートパーク」にある水遊びスポットです。シンボルである大屋根ひろばの前で、定期的にミストが噴き出す仕掛けになっていて、街の真ん中にいながら霧に包まれる不思議な体験ができます。プールのような深さがないため、歩き始めたばかりの子でも一緒に遊べ、水がこわい子は外側から少しずつ慣れていけます。起伏を利用した遊び場も併設されているので、水と遊具を行き来しながら長い時間を過ごせるのがこの公園の楽しみ方。紙屋町・八丁堀の中心部という立地で、路面電車やバスで気軽に来られるのも大きな利点です。利用は無料で、思い立った日にふらりと立ち寄れます。

2026年の開設期間は未発表です。出発前に公式サイトで稼働状況を確認してください。イベント開催時は広場の一部が利用できないことがあります。水にぬれた路面は滑りやすいので、走らないよう声をかけましょう。専用の更衣室がない場合に備えて、水着を服の下に着ていくとスムーズです。街なかで日差しをさえぎるものが限られるため、大屋根の下を休憩の拠点にすると快適です。着替えとタオルは人数分より少し多めに用意すると安心です。

You can walk freely through the park. Admission to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum (広島平和記念資料館) is paid and there are busy times of day, so check the waiting situation on the official website if you plan to go inside. The summer sun is strong, so choose the shaded paths along the rivers. There are places for flower offerings and prayer within the grounds; please remind children to be quiet there. Benches are limited, so find a shady spot and take your break early.
