The Hiroshima Yugaku no Mori Hiroshima City Forest Park Jabu-Jabu Stream is a water play area formed by a shallow flow of greenery and rock. Unlike a concrete-lined pool, it looks like a brook running through the trees, so simply stepping in feels like exploring deep in the mountains. The water is shallow and the current gentle, so even small children can safely dip their feet and play. Shade with tables and chairs sits nearby, letting you leave your bags and take turns resting so you can stay for a long while. Admission is free and the water play costs nothing, making it a summer staple you can visit again and again. Peek under the stones and you may find tiny creatures, which can spark a research project too.

It cannot be used when the stream is running high, such as after rain, so check the weather for the preceding days as well. There are stones on the streambed, so sandals that stay on your feet or water shoes are essential. Changing places are limited, so wearing swimwear under your clothes makes things smoother. The sun sinks early in the mountains, so wrap up in the late afternoon before anyone gets cold.
