Jonofuchi Park Water Play Area (Water-Friendly Plaza)

About this spot

The Jonofuchi Park Water Play Area (Water-Friendly Plaza) is a water-play spot in Minamitakai-cho, Matsuyama City, where you can enjoy water flowing straight from a spring pond selected as one of the 100 Famous Waters of Japan, in a shallow channel and open plaza. The water is refreshingly cold even in midsummer, and the children's voices the moment they put their feet in tell you so immediately. The water is shallow and the flow gentle, so it suits a first experience of water play. Trees surround the area, giving plenty of shade, so you can also spend a long time here while taking breaks: another feature unique to this park. Both admission and water play are free, and it is a water-friendly park open all year round. The summer 2026 opening period has not been announced, so check the situation in Matsuyama City's official guidance before you head out.

Tips

It is easy to trip or slip on the stones on the bottom, so have children wear sandals that will not come off, or water shoes. This is a water-friendly plaza rather than a swimming pool, so do not assume there are changing rooms or showers; go in clothes that can get wet, or be ready to change in the car. Small children should wear swim nappies. The water is turned off on some days for cleaning and maintenance, and it can turn cloudy after heavy rain. The car park is small at 37 spaces (including 2 accessible spaces), and it is open from 8:00 to 19:00 from April to September.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 30 minutes. In the afternoon the sunlight softens and the shade spreads, making it easier for small children
