Shimin-no-Mori Water Play Area, Municipal 50th Anniversary Park
About this spot
The Shimin-no-Mori Water Play Area is a free water play spot in the Municipal 50th Anniversary Park in Yamaji, Imabari. In the channel that runs beside the playground, children can dip their feet in or dam up the current. It is not a place for swimming like a pool; in practice it is a shallow waterside where you can cool off between turns on the playground equipment. The park covers about 8.6 hectares and includes a lawn plaza, an outdoor stage and the Flower Park, so there is plenty to do when the children tire of the water. Imabari City's official notice states that this year the water play period runs through Monday, August 31, and the opening date has not been announced. Check the period and the day's conditions on the city's official page before you set out.
Tips
Imabari City's notice clearly states that the channel is slippery, so take care. Avoid bare feet and beach sandals, and have children wear non-slip water shoes. There are no changing rooms or showers, so either go in clothes that can get wet or be ready to change in the car. Small children should wear swim diapers. There is plenty of shade, but drink water frequently. Stop immediately if you hear thunder, and take your rubbish home with you.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 15 minutes. The afternoon, when the shade lengthens, is cooler and makes it easy to go back and forth between the playground and the channel.
