Otemon Gate, former Saijo Domain Jinya Ruins (西条藩陣屋跡)

Located in Akeyashiki, Saijo, these are the ruins of the Edo-period jinya, the administrative residence of the Saijo domain. The wide moat and the Otemon Gate still remain, and walking along the water-filled moat brings the castle town vividly to mind. Carp and waterbirds live in the moat, and children stop in their tracks just to peer in. Saijo is a land rich in groundwater, and this watery scene along the moat is also part of the city of water. Feeling how the town and its water live together before heading to the flowing water facility in the afternoon makes the thread running through the day much clearer.

「西条市民公園流水施設」は、西条市大町にある3.42haの地区公園に整備された無料の水遊び場です。流れる水の中を歩いたりせき止めたりして遊べるつくりで、プールのように泳ぐのではなく、浅い水と一緒に走り回るのが楽しみ方になります。同じ園内にはふわふわドーム、多目的広場、芝生広場、テニスコートがそろい、児童館も併設されているため、水に飽きても遊び場に困りません。交流建屋や芝生の木陰は休憩の拠点として使いやすく、荷物をまとめておけば水と陸を何度でも行き来できます。2026年の開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の開放となるため、出発前に西条市の公式案内で必ず確認してください。

Tips

水底が滑りやすいので、脱げにくいサンダルかマリンシューズを履かせてください。更衣室やシャワーがある施設ではないため、濡れてもよい服で行くか、車内で着替えられる準備をしておくと安心です。小さな子は水遊び用おむつを着用しましょう。清掃や点検で水を止めている日があるほか、雷が鳴ったらすぐに切り上げてください。ふわふわドームは真夏に表面が熱くなることがあるので、触って確かめてから遊ばせましょう。ゴミは持ち帰りが基本です。

Tips

There is little shade along the moat, so bring a hat and something to drink. A school occupies part of the site, so walk quietly and follow any no-entry signs. There are places to eat in the surrounding town centre, so having lunch around here keeps the day flowing smoothly.
