Saijo Citizens' Park Flowing Water Facility

About this spot

The Saijo Citizens' Park Flowing Water Facility is a free water play area built into a 3.42-hectare district park in Omachi, Saijo. It is designed so children can walk through the running water or dam it up; rather than swimming as in a pool, the fun lies in running around with shallow water. The same park offers an air dome, a multipurpose field, a lawn plaza and tennis courts, and a children's hall is on the site as well, so there is no shortage of places to play when the children tire of the water. The exchange building and the shade on the lawn are easy to use as a base for breaks, and once you have your bags in one place you can move between water and land as often as you like. The 2026 opening period has not been announced, and in most years the facility opens during the summer holidays, so be sure to check the city of Saijo's official information before you set out.

Tips

The bottom is slippery, so have children wear sandals that will not come off or water shoes. There are no changing rooms or showers, so either go in clothes that can get wet or be ready to change in the car. Small children should wear swim diapers. The water is turned off on some days for cleaning and inspections, and you should stop immediately if you hear thunder. The surface of the air dome can get hot in midsummer, so touch it to check before letting children play. As a rule, take your rubbish home with you.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 30 minutes. In the afternoon, as the sunlight softens, the shade on the lawn spreads and you can play for longer.
