Shitaragahara History Museum (設楽原歴史資料館)

About this spot

This museum stands in Shitaragahara in Takehiro, Shinshiro City, on the very land where the Battle of Nagashino and Shitaragahara unfolded. The heart of the exhibits is a collection of matchlock guns, and displays that convey their real weight and length suddenly make the battle you read about in textbooks feel close at hand. Viewed together with materials tracing the course of the battle and the reconstructed anti-cavalry palisades that remain in the area, the relationship between terrain and warfare becomes easier to understand. Being indoors, it is a welcome place for families to spend a cool morning before the sun grows strong. For elementary school children who are just becoming interested in history, it is an especially memorable stop.

Venue: 新城市・桜淵公園

新城市の桜淵公園にある無料の水遊び場、「桜淵公園大芝生広場の噴水」です。2026年は7月15日(水)から9月15日(火)までの予定で、10:00〜16:00に5分間隔で噴水が出ます。水が止まっている間に近くまで行って構え、吹き上がった瞬間に駆け込む、という遊び方が子どもたちに人気。広い芝生に囲まれているので、遊び疲れたらそのまま座って休めます。豊川の渓谷に沿った景勝地の中にあり、まわりの緑と川の風景ごと楽しめるのがこの場所ならではの魅力です。料金は無料なので、短時間だけ立ち寄る使い方もできます。

Tips

開設期間はあくまで予定なので、出発前に新城市の公式サイトで当日の稼働を確認してください。設備についての公表がないため、着替えの場所やトイレの位置は現地で早めに確認しておくと安心です。芝生は雨上がりだとぬかるむことがあるので、汚れてもよい靴とレジャーシートがあると快適。16:00で噴水が止まるので、片付けと着替えの時間を逆算して15時半ごろには上がると落ち着いて帰れます。水遊び後は体をよく流し、木陰で休憩をはさみながら遊ぶと熱中症を防げます。

Tips

Please check admission fees and closing days on the official website in advance. The exhibition rooms are a place to stay quiet, so telling small children beforehand makes things go smoothly. Historic sites related to the battle are scattered around the area, so if you have time, driving around the neighborhood is also recommended.
