Handa Red Brick Building
About this spot
A large-scale brick building erected in 1898 as the brewery for Kabuto Beer. The exterior, with its thick walls and rows of arches, is powerful, and up close you can feel the texture of every single brick. Inside, exhibits introduce beer production of the day and the history of the building, giving you a sense of how Handa flourished as a brewing town. The high-ceilinged space stays cool, making it a good spot for a break on a summer morning. Seen together with the Handa Canal (半田運河) you will walk later, the way the town came to be takes on a three-dimensional shape.
Tips
Conditions for using the exhibition rooms and the opening days can change depending on events, so check the official website in advance. There is little shade around the building, so bring a hat and something to drink. The Handa Canal (半田運河) is only a short drive away.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. Well suited to spending the later part of the morning indoors as the sun grows stronger
