Yokogoshi Park Stream (babbling water channel)

About this spot

The Yokogoshi Park Stream (babbling water channel) is a free water play spot in a district park in Konan Ward, Niigata City. The operating period has not been announced; in most years the water flows in summer. The channel is shallow, so even small children can walk into it, and simply following it from upstream to downstream makes for real play. At 49,274 square meters the park is spacious, and beyond the water there is plenty more: a play plaza with equipment for toddlers, a covered plaza with a combination play structure, a man-made hill with a slide, and a multipurpose plaza. Being able to move to the covered plaza to warm up when you get cold and then go back into the water is a very welcome layout for spending a whole day. Park paths and an arbor are in place too, so adults can rest on a bench while keeping an eye on the children.

Tips

The operating period has not been announced, so be sure to check the current year's status on the official Niigata City page before you set out. There are days when the water is not running, depending on the weather and maintenance. The bottom of the channel is slippery, so have children wear sandals or water shoes that will not come off. There is not necessarily a changing room, so a towel or a simple poncho you can throw on over your clothes saves trouble when changing. The covered plaza and the arbor serve as rest areas, so move into the shade often during the hottest hours.

Best time to visit

Enter from 13:40 and you can play for a good 2 hours 20 minutes until evening
