Miya no Mori / Kibajo Park Jabu-Jabu Pond (宮のもり・木場城公園 ジャブジャブ池)
About this spot
Miya no Mori / Kibajo Park Jabu-Jabu Pond is a free water-play area in a neighborhood park in Nishi Ward, Niigata City. The opening period has not been announced; in past years it has opened during the summer. The pond is shallow, so even small children can get in safely and play as they please, splashing each other or just sitting down in the water. A babbling stream channel runs beside the pond, and children get absorbed simply following the path of the water on foot. At nearby Dragonfly Pond (とんぼ池) you can hunt for creatures, and when you want to dry off, you can move to the slide at Wanpaku Plaza (わんぱく広場) or the picnic lawn. That ease of switching between activities is what makes this park so good. The 8,952-square-meter grounds are small enough to cover on foot, just the right scale for a family to spend a day.
Season & hours
Name: 宮のもり・木場城公園 ジャブジャブ池
Date & time: 開設期間は未発表 (例年は夏季)
Venue: 新潟市西区・宮のもり・木場城公園
Tips
Because the opening period has not been announced, be sure to check the City of Niigata's official page for this year's status before you set out. There are days when it cannot be used depending on the weather or water management. The bottom of the pond is slippery, so have children wear sandals or water shoes that will not slip off. There is not necessarily a changing room, so bring a towel you can drape over yourself or a simple poncho and changing will be no trouble. Shade is limited, so bring something for sun protection and plenty to drink.
Best time to visit
Get in at 13:45 and you can play for more than two hours, until the sun starts to sink in the evening
