Seseragi Waterway at Seiryu-no-Sato Kawase Park

About this spot

The Seseragi Waterway at Seiryu-no-Sato Kawase Park is a free water-play area that the city of Gosen officially describes as a popular spot for children's water play. The opening period has not been announced, but in past years it has run through the summer. It is a water-friendly park drawing on clear streams channelled into the urban area and on abundant groundwater, so the cleanliness of the water is exactly what makes the place appealing. The waterway is shallow enough for small children to walk into, and simply following the flow keeps them busy for a long time. There is a pond where carp and other fish swim, and time spent peering at the surface counts as fine play for a child. Kingfishers and dragonflies can be seen in the woods at the back, so bringing a net and a small case for creature watching is recommended. It is a park only Gosen could offer, where water play and nature observation continue in the same place.

Tips

The opening period has not been announced, so be sure to check the current year's situation on Gosen City's official page before you set out. Water drawn from groundwater feels cold even in midsummer. If bodies get chilled, get out early and warm up in the sun before going back in. The pond with the carp is not for water play, so keep the playing to the waterway. The bottom of the waterway is slippery, so sandals or water shoes that will not slip off are safer. There may not be a changing room, so a towel you can wrap around yourself or a simple poncho will save you trouble when changing. If you go into the woods, do not forget insect repellent.

Best time to visit

Arrive at 13:30 and you can keep up water play and creature watching for about two and a half hours until evening
