This is Gosen City's public library, with a well-stocked children's book section. Looking up in advance the creatures you will meet by the water in the afternoon makes the joy of actually finding them many times greater. Kingfishers, dragonflies, river fish: just fixing their names and appearances in your mind changes the density of your time in the park. The air-conditioned building is also an ideal refuge for the hours before noon when the sun is at its strongest. A book read here can also lead into writing up a summer research project after you get home.

清流の里川瀬公園せせらぎの水路は、五泉市公式が「こどもの水遊びとして人気のスポット」と紹介している無料の水遊び場で、開設期間は未発表、例年は夏季です。市街地への清流の通水と豊富な地下水を利用した親水公園で、水がきれいなことがそのまま遊び場の魅力になっています。浅い水路なので小さな子どもでも歩いて入れ、流れをたどるだけで長いこと遊べます。鯉や魚が泳ぐ池があり、水面をのぞきこむ時間も子どもにとっては立派な遊びです。奥の森ではカワセミやトンボが見られるので、網とケースを持って生き物観察に出かけるのもおすすめ。水遊びと自然観察を同じ場所で続けられる、五泉ならではの公園です。

開設期間は未発表なので、出発前に五泉市の公式ページで当年の状況を必ず確認してください。地下水を使った水は真夏でも冷たく感じます。体が冷えたら早めに上がって、日なたで温めてから戻りましょう。鯉のいる池は水遊び用ではないので、遊ぶのは水路にとどめてください。水路の底は滑りやすいので、脱げにくいサンダルやマリンシューズが安全です。更衣室があるとは限らないため、上から羽織れるタオルや簡易ポンチョがあると着替えに困りません。森に入るなら虫よけを忘れずに。
