Morohashi Tetsuji Memorial Museum (諸橋轍次記念館)

About this spot

This memorial museum conveys the life and achievements of Morohashi Tetsuji, a scholar of Chinese classics born in the Shitada district of Sanjo City. The sight of the actual volumes of the Dai Kan-Wa Jiten (大漢和辞典), which he spent his whole life compiling, is overwhelming, and it is the adults who are left speechless by the thickness of a single volume and the sheer number of them. His birthplace survives nearby, and it is astonishing that work of this scale came out of a mountain village. The building is quiet, and being able to spend time slowly while looking at the greenery of the garden is another pleasure. For a child who has begun to take an interest in Chinese characters, it is a precious chance to grasp the weight of the dictionary as a tool.

中浦ヒメサユリ森林公園水遊びの水路は、三条市下田地区の森林公園にある無料の水遊びスポットです。池や小川を模した水路が流れ、三条市公式は「水遊びのほか、中に入って虫を捕まえることもできます」と紹介しています。木立に囲まれているため日陰が多く、真夏でも比較的長く水辺にいられるのがありがたいところです。園内にはアスレチックがあり、体が冷えたら遊具で温めてまた水に戻る、という遊び方ができます。釣り堀、バンガロー5棟とオートキャンプ、野外炊飯施設、屋外ステージもそろい、3kmの遊歩道は森林浴にちょうどよい長さです。水路の利用は無料で、キャンプや釣り堀など一部施設は有料になります。

水遊びの開設期間は未発表です。公園の営業期間は4月下旬から12月上旬までで、毎週木曜が休館日、祝日と重なる場合は開館します。訪問日が木曜にあたらないか必ず確かめてください。山あいなので夕方は気温が下がります。上がったあとに羽織れる長袖があると安心です。虫が多い場所なので虫よけを持参し、捕まえた生き物は観察したら元に戻しましょう。水路の底は滑りやすいので、脱げにくいサンダルやマリンシューズを履かせてください。更衣室があるとは限らないため、タオルや簡易ポンチョを用意しておくと着替えに困りません。

Tips

There are closing days, so check the opening days and hours before you set out. The memorial museum stands on the grounds of the Michi-no-Eki Kangaku-no-Sato Shitada roadside station, where you can have lunch and do your shopping. The museum is a place to view quietly, so a word to younger children beforehand is reassuring.
