This museum in Minami-Senju, Arakawa City, covers the ward's history and daily life. Models and recreated displays trace everything from Paleolithic excavated artifacts to Senju (千住) in its heyday as a post town, and on to its transformation into an industrial district in the modern era. The corner recreating a Showa-era house can be entered and explored, so for children it feels less like a history lesson and more like an adventure. The scale is not that large, so you can finish viewing it while attention spans hold, which is welcome for families. Shioiri Park (汐入公園) is within walking distance.

Tips

Check the admission fee, opening hours and closed days on the official website in advance. The museum is a place to be quiet, so agree on no running beforehand. Strollers may be brought in, but leaving one at the entrance makes moving around easier when it is crowded. It is within walking distance of Minami-Senju Station (南千住駅), and you can continue on foot to Ishihama Shrine (石浜神社).
