About this spot

This city-run park in Meguro-honcho (目黒本町) is built around a large pond. It is one of the few ponds in the ward where fishing is permitted, and people can be seen casting lines from early morning. Aquatic plants grow at the surface, and children enjoy spotting familiar creatures such as dragonflies and turtles. The pond is ringed by trees, so you can pick shaded paths even in high summer. There is also an adjoining playground area, so everyone can move about a little before heading to the next stop.

Tips

You view the pond from behind a fence, so remind children not to lean out over it. Fishing is subject to ward rules, so check the on-site notices if you bring tackle. Shade is limited to the areas beneath the trees, so a hat is reassuring. Locating the toilets first makes the visit easier.
