About this spot

Toyama Park was created on the site of the Owari Tokugawa family villa from the Edo period and is divided into two areas, Okubo and Hakoneyama. The Okubo area has a lawn plaza and playground equipment, and if you choose a spot under the trees you can settle down and open your bento. What makes this park interesting is that although it sits close to the centre of Shinjuku City, once you are surrounded by trees the sense of the city fades. It is natural to rest a while after eating and then walk over to the Hakoneyama area. There are restaurants nearby too, so on days when you have not brought a bento you can eat out instead.

戸山公園じゃぶじゃぶ池（箱根山地区）は、新宿区の戸山公園にある無料の水遊び場です。2026年のシーズンは7/1(水)〜9/30(水)、時間は10:30〜15:30です。すべり台のついた浅い池になっているので、水に入るだけでなく滑って遊べるのが子どもには大きな魅力になっています。箱根山のふもとにあり、まわりを木立が囲んでいるため日陰を確保しやすいのも助かるところ。料金は無料で、園内にはトイレもあります。テントの設営はできないので、日よけはレジャーシートと木陰で工夫してください。

Tips

清掃点検の休止は8/5(水)・9/3(木)です。天候や気温によって他の日も休止になることがあるので、出発前に開設状況を確認してください。テントの設営はできません。すべり台は順番を守る約束を先にしておくと安心です。更衣室の案内はないため、水着を下に着ていくかタオルポンチョを持参しましょう。

Tips

Buying your bento and drinks around Takadanobaba or Waseda stations before entering the park makes things smoother. Rubbish must be taken home, so bring a bag. Shaded spots fill up quickly at lunchtime, so securing one early is reassuring. Avoid entering the water right after eating; using the walk and climb up Mt. Hakoneyama as digestion time works out nicely.
