Kodomo no Mori Park Water Monument (shower water play)

The Kodomo no Mori Park Water Monument (shower water play) is a free water play spot in Kodomo no Mori Park in Shinagawa Ward. Three colourful pipes of differing heights stand there, and the showers gush six times a day for 15 minutes each. Children gather all at once when the time comes, so the cheer at the moment the water bursts out is itself a summer tradition of this park. Eight dinosaur statues are placed in the grounds, and the park is known locally as Kaiju Park (monster park). While waiting for the shower, children can explore around the dinosaur statues or use the play equipment, so they never get bored. It is not a place where you soak in the water like a pool, which makes it easy to join in even for children who dislike water.

The ward's official page does not state the operating period; the run from 1 July to around 30 September is an estimate based on how it has operated in past years. Check the operating status on the official Shinagawa Ward page before setting out. The showers run six times a day for 15 minutes each, so on arrival first check the spray times on the notices on site. Clothes get thoroughly wet under the shower, so bring a change of clothes and a towel for each person. Waiting means standing in the sun, so do not forget a hat and drinks.
