Omori Nori Museum (大森 海苔のふるさと館)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Adjacent to Omori Furusato no Hamabe Park, this museum tells the history of nori (seaweed) aquaculture in Tokyo Bay. Inside, nori production tools designated as an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan are on display, along with an impressive wooden nori-harvesting boat that once actually went out to sea. The exhibits center on photos and tools, so it's a help that even children too young to read can look and understand. Admission is free, and the air-conditioned interior is also reliable as a place to cool off in midsummer. Since the sand beach is right next door, being able to connect what you see indoors with the scenery outside, before or after your visit, is another advantage unique to this spot.

Tips

Admission is free, but check the closed days and opening hours with the official announcement in advance. There's enough space to view the exhibits with a stroller. On some days, events such as a nori-making experience are held, so checking event information before you go adds to the fun. Cooling off here before heading to lunch will help you save energy for the afternoon's water play.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. You can spend the hours when the sun is strongest indoors.
