Nakano Ward Heiwa no Mori Park (中野区立 平和の森公園)

Flow of the course

About this spot

One of the largest parks in Nakano Ward, it has a spacious arrangement of a broad grassy plaza, groves of trees, and an area with a pond. It was developed as a park on the former site of a prison, and its name expresses a wish for peace. Children can run freely on the lawn, and the surrounding shade is a comfortable spot to spread a picnic sheet and eat lunch. There is also an area with play equipment, so you can adjust the visit to suit children's energy levels. It's a bit of a walk from here to the Maruyama Park venue, but that's a good way to work up an appetite along the way.

Tips

You're generally expected to take your trash home, so bring extra bags. The park is large, so it helps to check the location of the entrance and restrooms first. Some areas offer little shade, so pick a spot after scouting the shaded areas for comfort. Since the afternoon session starts at 13:00, finish lunch early enough to start moving by then.

Best time to visit

About 55 minutes. Eating lunch in the shade of the lawn leaves plenty of energy for the afternoon
