About this spot

This long, narrow green space runs along the Sai River as it flows through downtown Kanazawa, and is well loved by locals. Lawns and rows of trees alternate along its length, so choosing a shady spot to spread a picnic sheet instantly turns it into a picnic ground. The breeze off the river feels cool, and staying in the shade keeps things comfortable even in the height of summer. It's a peaceful spot where people out for a walk or a jog pass by, so after eating you can stroll along leisurely, taking in the river. Bringing a packed lunch lets you enjoy a relaxed midday without having to search for a restaurant.

Tips

Since the green space stretches from upstream to downstream, decide in advance which section has parking and restrooms so you don't get lost. The riverbank can be dangerous when water levels rise, so please stay away from the water's edge. Shaded spots are popular, so claiming one a little early will let you eat without feeling rushed. Please be sure to take your trash home with you.
