About this spot

This experiential learning facility stands in the Shiragamine Highlands, 330 meters above sea level, in the northern part of Isahaya City. The four-story building with one basement level houses a large astronomical telescope, a learning hall, and an exhibition hall for works such as paintings, letting you get close to both stars and art. Even during the day you can learn about space through the telescope and exhibits, making it an unforgettable experience for children who are just starting to take an interest in astronomy. Admission is free, but registration at the front desk is required. It's on the same highlands as the Children's Castle, only a very short drive away. Spending the morning in the cool indoors is designed to save your energy for the afternoon's water play.

Tips

Opening hours are 10:00-20:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and 10:00-22:00 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; the museum is closed every Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday). The Children's Castle is also closed on Mondays, so avoid planning a visit on that day. Admission is free, but registration at the front desk is required. It sits atop a highland hill and involves walking from the parking area, so bring a hat and something to drink.

Best time to visit

About 1.5 hours. You can spend the morning indoors before the sunlight gets strong.
