About this spot
Kawachi River Pool is a free water-play spot set up upstream of the Kawachi Dam in Tosu City. Built to make the most of the natural stones as they are, with water drawn directly from the Ogi River, it stays remarkably cold and clear even in the height of summer. Its greatest appeal is feeling the texture of the stones and the varying strength of the current with your whole body — something a man-made pool can't offer. The surroundings are covered in deep greenery, so you can play while resting in the shade. There are both shallow and deep areas, so younger children can get used to the water in the shallows while older kids can move around more actively where the current is stronger. In 2026 it is open from July 18 to August 31.
Season & hours
Name: 河内河川プール
Date & time: 7/18 (Sat)–8/31 (Mon)
Venue: 鳥栖市・河内河川プール
Tips
It's free to use, but there's no shop, so be sure to bring drinks and snacks. Water shoes are reassuring so you don't cut your feet on the stones on the riverbed. The water feels several degrees colder than in town, so take breaks rather than staying in the water for long stretches. Water levels can rise after heavy rain, so check Tosu City's official information on the pool's status before heading out.
Best time to visit
Entering in the afternoon when the temperature rises makes the cold water feel the most refreshing
