Mexico Memorial Park (メキシコ記念公園)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A park on a hilltop in Iwawada, Onjuku, offering a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. It was built to commemorate the historical event of 1609, when a Spanish ship ran aground offshore and local residents rescued the crew, and features a memorial tower telling the story of exchange between Japan, Mexico, and Spain. The view from the park is wide open, with the Sotobo coastline and horizon stretching endlessly -- truly spectacular. There's also a grassy slope where children will have fun just running around. Taking in the sea breeze here before the pool makes it feel all the more like summer in Onjuku.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Onjuku Town Waterpark. There's a slope up to the hilltop, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited, so a hat and something to drink are essential. The scenic spot can be windy, so be careful your hat doesn't blow away.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. Sunny mornings, when the sea looks its bluest, are ideal.
