Next stop: Walk among burial mounds on the hills and feel Miyazaki's ancient pastAbout this spot
This historic shrine in Miyazaki City has long been revered as the shrine of the god of eyesight. The stone steps of its approach are covered by trees, so a cool breeze flows even on a midsummer morning. The grounds are calm, a quiet place where locals come for their morning visits. Turn around at the top of the stone steps and the Miyazaki Plain spreads out beyond the greenery. In this course, which moves early to match the pool's morning-only hours, starting the day with a shrine visit first thing makes for a pleasant start.
Tips
Admission is free and there are no time restrictions on visiting. The stone steps are long, so small children may need to be carried. There can be a lot of insects in the morning, so insect repellent will give you peace of mind.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes. Early morning, before the sun climbs high, is the coolest time to walk
