Nisho Yamada Shrine (二所山田神社)

Flow of the course

About this spot

An old shrine nestled in the mountains of Kano, its main hall surrounded by tall trees. As you climb the stone steps, the surrounding sounds fade away, leaving only the calls of cicadas and the sound of the wind - a stillness that leaves an impression. The grounds aren't large, but that means you can take your time looking at each building and stone monument. With plenty of shade, it's a place where you can escape the heat even in the height of summer. It makes a fitting stop to settle down before heading to the pool in the afternoon.

Tips

There are stone steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Insects are common during this season, so insect repellent helps. Kano Pool is just a few minutes away by car. Wrapping up the morning here, having lunch, and then heading to the pool makes for a smooth, unhurried flow.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes. The shady grounds are well suited to a rest during the hot hours before noon
