Kure City Shimokamagari Pool is an outdoor pool on Shimokamagari Island in the Seto Inland Sea, typically open from Monday, July 20 through Monday, August 31. It has two pools: a 25m x 13m pool (0.7-1.3m deep, six lanes) and a shallower 12.5m x 6m pool (0.6m deep), so you can choose the right spot for your family's ages and swimming ability. The shallow end of the larger pool is 0.7m, reassuringly shallow enough for lower-grade elementary schoolers to stand comfortably. Admission is an affordable 200 yen per visit for general visitors and 100 yen per visit for high schoolers and younger, and it's a place local island children spend their summers. Even the journey of crossing a bridge onto the island adds to the feeling of getting away from everyday life, a charm unique to this facility.

The pool closes temporarily on days with heavy rain warnings or severe weather, so check the facility's information for the day's opening status before heading out. Also check the opening hours at the same time. There are only a limited number of shops on the island, so it's reassuring to bring your own drinks and snacks in advance. The 1.3m-deep side is too deep for shorter children, so use the shallow pool and make sure a guardian stays with them at all times. Shaded rest areas are limited, so bringing extra leisure sheets and towels will help keep you comfortable.
