About this spot
Shikagawa Elementary School Pool (open to the public during summer vacation) in Etajima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a school pool opened to the community during summer vacation. In 2026 it is open from Tuesday, July 21 through Friday, August 7, closed every Saturday and Sunday and on August 6, with August 10 and 11 set as substitute open days. The facility has a simple, school-like layout with a 25m pool and a small pool, and admission is free. Being able to enter, as a family, a place normally used only by the school's students is a special experience unique to summer vacation. Kids challenging themselves to swim the full 25m and kids getting used to the water in the small pool can each go at their own pace. Located at a school on a Seto Inland Sea island, the surrounding quiet and the openness of the sky bring a completely different feel from a pool in the city.
