Shirotori Garden (白鳥庭園)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Located in Atsuta Ward, this is one of the largest pond-strolling Japanese gardens in Nagoya. Its distinctive feature is that the whole garden represents the topography of the Chubu region: water flowing from an artificial hill modeled on Mt. Ontake becomes the Kiso Three Rivers and empties into Ise Bay. The water's form changes one after another - waterfall, mountain stream, pond - and as you walk listening to the sound of water, the air feels cooler even in the height of summer. There is also a tea house on the grounds where you can spend a quiet moment. It's a nice way to enjoy the beauty of water in another form before heading into the pool.

Tips

It's close to Atsuta Shrine and about a 10-minute drive from Nagoya City Atsuta Pool. Check the official website for closing days, opening hours, and admission fee. The paths include stepping stones and gravel, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Some areas near the pond have no fence, so hold small children's hands while walking. Mosquitoes appear, so insect repellent is helpful.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 5 minutes. The late-morning hours, when the coolness of the water sounds stands out most, are also recommended.
